A Horse Haven in the Beautiful Los Osos Valley

CVFH strives to balance responsible land use with natural horse keeping. Every effort
is made to care for horses in a manner consistent with their heritage. Because horses are grazing animals,
they are fed three times daily instead of the standard - two. Most boarders choose an orchard grass hay
diet. However, both forage and alfalfa hay is available. Many boarders keep their horses
barefoot.
CVFH has ¼ mile of "fenced track" where horses can run. This is an idea borrowed
from Paddock Paradise,
by Jaime Jackson.
Instead of the traditional quarterly de-worming, every horse's manure is routinely sampled for parasites. Because of the stringent cleaning schedule, most horses come up clean and do not need chemical de-wormers.
CVFH practices sustainable pasture management. Horses are allowed to graze while grass is available and then taken off of the grass to allow revegitation. Manure is composted in accordance with CCOF standards and used for Clark Valley Organic Farm and Pozo Organic Farm.
